Kerfing Plane Kit – Loon Lake Tool Works (Video)

It’s probably of no surprise to anyone who knows me to find out that I’m a fan of new tools. One of the tools that was popularized a number of years ago, when I first started getting more seriously in to hand tool woodworking, were kerfing planes. I was involved with online woodworking forums where the idea of making a kerfing plane out of a combination plane was talked about a few times.

Bob Page over at Loon Lake Tool Works actually went and did it, and I was excited to give it a try. I had no affiliation and no relationship with Bob prior to purchasing this kit for myself. I decided to do a review, simply because I enjoy new tools, especially when they’re made by small businesses here in the US.

You can check his website if you are interested in purchasing one.

The high level summary is, I like it and think its well made. It’s got some alternate uses as well, that I find interesting to explore.

I’ve since been in contact with Bob about another kit he’s got in the works. In part of that conversation, we were discussing the possibility of making a cross-cut or hybrid kit based off some of the ideas I had for using it in that review. I think that is something I’d like to try exploring, and may post a blog about that some time in the future, if it comes to fruition, so subscribe to the blog if you want to be notified if that comes in!

Anyway, thanks for checking it out!
