Pick up the pieces

After I packed up my outside mod table and eaten some dinner, I moved things in to the garage to take a run at that hard drive cage again.

Getting the hard drive cage out

This went better than the back, but still needed to bend it back straight a little.

Less collateral damage this time

I then turned my attention to the remaining motherboard support brace (I had already removed two). Again the issue with too small of a drill bit meant lots of prying to pop them loose.

Another 238.7 spot welds later

Apparently the screwdriver was slightly magnetized.

This later became my avatar with a photoshoped on face on the forums

I then cut off the back panel that I had mangled earlier.

Mangled back now gone

This little bit was just hanging on after the pass with the jig saw, kinda fun.

Being “artsy”

I salvaged a motherboard tray and rear I/O panel out of an old donor case. I had to trim it up a little so it would fit, but setting that in there let me see how it looked. I’m pretty happy with that.

Mocked motherboard tray

And the fruits of my labor for the day. Somehow it felt like a lot more work than this box shows.

I swear I was drilling and cutting more pieces than this…

With a decent collection of scrap metal in the bin, I called it a day. Up for some fun in the next update, as I will be tackling the back brace I’ll need after mangling the original, so stay tuned!
