I have had my CNC machine for a number of years now, I think it was 2019 when I bought it. Last year I joined a small special interest group through the Minnesota Woodworkers Guild that was focused on CNC. I’m not entirely sure what I was expecting out of it, but I just wanted to start branching out a little.
I’ve done a fair bit of work with my CNC in the past, but I’ve not shared much of it on my YouTube channel. I’ve mostly used it for acrylic and aluminum parts when I was working on either a computer case mod project, vintage machine restoration, or occasional parts around the shop.
Using my CNC for woodworking has certainly been something I’ve done before, but it was usually just a “get it done” kind of project. This box project was a group project for the CNC group, and I thought I’d take the opportunity to do some parametric modeling and practice some optimization techniques using Fusion360 for generating the model and tool paths.
It’s been a fun project, and I’ve got a few more to finish up to wrap up my contributions. I already have plans to use a scaled up version of this same box for a mini tool chest in the future, so stay tuned and subscribe to the blog if you’re interested in that!
Anyway, thanks for checking it out!
