IBM PC-AT Reborn – Cabling and Test Mockup

I wanted to do some cable sleeving to present the cables I’d have a little neater and clean up the look. Then I went on to test fit some spare hardware in it, just to make sure everything fits as expected before I move on to painting things later.

Starting out with the black+red+yellow cables for the fans. I have to remove all the pins from the housing first.

Then I put some expandable cable sleeving over the wires, and heat shrink the end of it.

I also had some larger sleeving and heat shrink that I used on the SATA cables, even though I started with black cables, this helped match them up to the other cables I would have in there.

Rinse and repeat a bunch on the fan cables, and I’ve got everything all sleeved up and ready to go in the case.

Everything is matching and looking better

Next up I took a whole pile of “spare” parts and did a test installation just to make sure I didn’t have to make any modifications. I’d hate to paint everything and then find out something needed a little more tweaking. You can also see here I swapped out that black power button for a silver one, and it looks much better.

A test fit of the hardware revealed no major issues

Everything actually fits rather well, and I’m able to route the cables in a way that lets me hide them pretty well out of the way.

The test hardware looks like everything is a go!

Nothing left for this one, just have to prep and paint for the next installment!
